A Sitootery is a "sit-oot-there" which is a toilet built in the stair of a close which was used before toilets were installed inside houses. I hope this helps. When my grandma lived up a close in Glasgow there was a toilet half way down the close stairs. I hated going there as it was always freezing or so I thought |

I'm always mentioning Scottish words at work and being from up north lots of people don't know them
I like besom crab bit and all the other ones on my placemats.......

I came across an old Scots word today that I have never heard before, "Ferntickle"
Which means to have been touched by fairys, and was commonly used to describe people of pale complexion especially redheads.
Every days a schoolday, as the saying goes. |

When I was a kid my gran used to call my freckles ferntickles - I guess that's why. She was a redhead too |
