Nope. You'll need 2/3 in the Senate. It'll never happen.

Whether they even go through with it is in question. It might backfire on the Democrats.

I don't like Trump or the way he conducts himself, but this whole thing seems more like liberal foot stamping and trying to overturn democracy because they lost, much like has happened over here with Brexit and Boris. If anything it will probably backfire and get him elected again.

It will probably fail, due to the vested interests that most of them have in his continuation as president.

Whilst they set the bar higher than the brexit referendum, which will arguably have a bigger effect on a country, perhaps they should have a similar threshold? Probably still unlikely to be met, as they have closed minds, bias and have decided in advance.

"So it's finally happened. But will it be enough to get rid of Trump?"

I very much doubt it, business will pretty much carry on as normal, as he is still the president.

The senate is the next step when House Speaker Pelosi hands over the documentation, pending assurances of a fair trial and process. The senate is a republican majority so its highly unlikely that your going to see the vice president taking over the presidency just yet.

Crikey now that would be bad news for the Democrats, Pence is more Conservative than Trump!

No way will enough Republicans vote to boot out trump in the Senate. Based on their tribalism, I bet none of them will vote against him. Facts and law don't seem to matter a damn to them.

I also bet Trump will use his victory in the Senate. He'll brag about it, saying how it proves he's been unfairly attacked by the evil Democrats. And that it's proof he did nothing wrong. He might even gain more voters as a result. Madness.

The Democrats will be lucky to get all the Democrat votes in the Senate, let alone any independents or Republicans. They need 20 Republicans to flip and sadly for then there is only 1 Mick Romney.

With the Russia probe left in tatters, Nancy panicked as needed something for her base and this phone call to Ukraine was not it. I actually think she didnt want to do it but she succumbed to the media and some of the dems pressure, The only thing this has done is pretty much guarantee trump 2020. Have you guys seen how much he has raised since this all started? and this when the Democrats are broke, have no message but "orange man bad" and their candidates for 2020 are worse than Hillary.

Like him or loathe him Trump has played a blinder here. He will walk into 2020 with buckets of cash, a good economy, good jobs record and a fractured Democrat party.

He hasn’t been impeached at least not yet according to constitutional Law experts because Pelosi the Leader of the House of Representatives hasn’t actually sent the paperwork to the Senate . That has to happen for it to be called impeachment . Even if she does send it it’s going to fail and as a few people have already said this Kangaroo type court in a basement room is being judged as a complete waste of time by the swing voters who are the crucial ones thereby boosting Trumps chances next year .

The democrats protecting Clinton even though he pleaded guilty, means that the republicans will never ever ever impeach their own party members.

The house of representatives impeachment is like a police officer cautioning you. The senate impeachment is like a judge sentencing you.

Honestly what they are impeaching him for every single president ever has done. It just seems like sour grapes.

I think that there has probably never been a stronger case for impeachment. Like they say if you can't impeachment now then you can't impeach anyone.

Leaving all the other things he's done aside. How does anyone support a guy who sets up a charity and uses it as his own piggy bank. I mean how low can you possibly go? That has to be one of the worst crimes against humanity ever. It's disgusting.

Never before has the USA been forced to look the other way so hard and so often. It's ironic that the right wing are the ones who don't care about what's right.

Newcastle and Gateshead

the dems might get 4/5 tops to flip.... but since they need 20 that isn't going to happen....

the ones to look for are either bullet-proof republicans in places that don't like trump, so Romney in Utah, or Murkowski in Alaska (remember she was the one republican who voted against Kavanagh).... or Republicans in very shakey 2020 senate races.... Collins in Maine, Gardner in Colorado, Tillis in North Carolina.....

and because it basically takes 4 or those 5, plus lets say a federalist like Lamar Alexander in Tennessee, or a libertarian like Rand Paul in Kentucky to in effect set the rules for the trial...

if your one of those "up for re-election" senate republicans in a state that clinton won.... how do you tell they independents that you voted to have a trial, but without any witnesses because you voted that down....... thats a ridiculous hard sell to your voters, and that election attack ad writes itself!

i thinks that why we will end up hearing from a mulvaney, or a boulton, or even pompeo (all of which this whitehouse have all fought to keep off the stands so far)

No because the hearing is after the inauguration.

It will be mainly a symbolic act. But he will get impeached, and then he will lose all the after benefits of being a former president, which means he will not be allowed to stand for re election!

If - and it's still a pretty big if - he gets impeached and found guilty; he won't be able to run for President again. Obviously, that would be a good thing.

However, it'll take another ten of those despicable, careerist, 'what's in it for me?' cowards to grow a spine and make it happen.

the land of saints & sinners

The 100 seats in the Senate are split 50/50 between Republicans and Democrats. It only will take 17 Republicans to find Trump guilty in a Senate trial. 20 have indicated that they are likely to vote for a guilty verdict.

Indications are that Mitch McConnell is likely to vote guilty. Rumours from his normally office are quite rare thing.

If he votes to convict then it’s likely that a large number of other republican senators are likely to vote that way.

There is a large swaths of the Republican Party that wants rid of DJT and Trumpism due to the political and financial damage it is doing to try GOP.

Trump clearly never read anything about political history otherwise he would know the quote... “All political careers end in failure”

10 Republican representatives voted in favour of impeachment, which is the most bipartisan impeachment in US history. Further to this, the republicans are in the minority in congress so they can't bring impeachment proceedings without Democratic votes.

Is that the same republicans who refused to accept the outcome of the election, despite umpteen vexatious attempts in the courts, verified by the administration's appointed oversight and international monitors as being the correct democratic decision?

"Trump is a Buffoon.

But impeachment seems to be an entirely political kangaroo court. Just a daft process and I imagine most future presidents will be impeached whenever they don't have a house majority.

Most Future Presidents will NOT

Give Rise to insurrection.

Why because they know they will be

Destroyed .

I have a feeling Trump will be ripped apart by all America

Politically , Financially , In Buisness & Judicially .

An Example WILL be made .

Fine, whatever, but impeachment is a political manoeuvre nothing to do with justice.

From wikipedia:

Impeachment in the United States is the process by which a legislature (usually in the form of the lower house) brings charges against a civil officer of government for crimes alleged to have been committed, analogous to the bringing of an indictment by a grand jury. Impeachment may occur at the federal level or the state level.

The Constitution limits grounds of impeachment to "Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors"

Again, fine, whatever, but it would be more credible if republicans had instigated the process. It just look like regular politics to me.

Is that the same republicans who refused to accept the outcome of the election, despite umpteen vexatious attempts in the courts, verified by the administration's appointed oversight and international monitors as being the correct democratic decision?

The same people who even after trump's mob had stormed the house and a police officer was murdered by them continue to try and overturn that decision ..

"

All that says to me is there are a bunch of moronic buffoons on both sides (Can't get much more partisan then Pelosi) and actual courts would be better places to get justice done than political hearings.

Trial of the President can only be conducted through the senate.

The prosecution of Donald Trump as a US citizen can be done either at state level or in a federal court. Though there are cases stacking up against him for when he leaves office and granting himself a pardon does not automatically grant him immunity from all charges.

If fact it implies a level of guilt.

But as a sitting President inciting insurrection is constitutional crime and is prosecuted by the senate.

I'm simply saying 'the system' is rubbish and should be changed.

For example, in actual practical terms, why shouldn't the President be tried in a proper court?

Both sides, that one again. Nancy Pelosi is the Speaker in Congress and leader of the House democrats. Do you expect her to advocate for the opposition?

Since retaking the House in 2018, approx 300 Bills have been passed and sent to Republican controlled Senate only to be ignored. Senate leader McConnell calls himself the grim reaper because the Senate is where Bills go to die.

I have already explained to you what impeachment is but Trump could well face civil and criminal liability post presidency for actions committed while in office.

Impeachment is the process while a president is in office. Congress determines is there a charge to be answered for and this is followed by trial in the Senate, presided over by the Supreme Court Justice. Both sides of the argument will be represented by legal counsel with the ability to call witnesses and submit evidence.

If you google the following you should find an explanation as to why the regular judicial process doesn't apply.

The indictment or criminal prosecution of a sitting President would unconstitutionally undermine the capacity of the executive branch to perform its constitutionally assigned functions.

That would require a majority vote in both the senate and House of Representatives or potentially the President invoking an executive order though the latter is highly unlikely as no President is going to enact something that allows for the court prosecution of themselves.

The later would also end up straight up at the Supreme Court.

Whilst in principle changing or adding amendments to the constitution seems simple. In practice it is not an easy thing to achieve. Many have tried and failed.

Expect years of wrangling, debate and filibuster. You are a braver man that me if you were to attempt it assuming that you are a US citizen and are constitutionally allowed to pursue it.

What you actually mean is that the UK has not codified it’s constitution in to a single document.

This is where people mistakenly think that there is no written constitution for the UK.

Thought some Acts of Parliament have special constitutional status. These include the Magna Carta.

British courts cannot declare Acts of Parliament to be unconstitutional, but can declare acts of the executive invalid.
