It would appear that some here have been happy with the crumbs of investment that the North has been getting from the EU, which might explain why successive governments haven't felt the need to invest more oop North wouldn't it?

Yes your bloody EU destroys places like Liverpool then some years later does put in a lot of money but took years and years.

If we had never joined the EU the port would not have collapsed the way it did although Hatton did help speed up the collapse

The port collapsed due to containerisation and chronic labour problems. It was nothing to do with the EU.

It couldn’t handle the larger ships needed for transatlantic and Far Eastern services. L2 has gone some way to correcting that but it’s still the wrong side of the country for European imports. Brexit won’t do it any favours or any of the other U.K. container ports. Why have two lots of paperwork when you only need one to go into Antwerp or Rotterdam. If cargoes are transhipped to feeders for onward shipment then no extra paperwork just the added costs of the lifts and feeder.

The labour issues of constantly being on strike and the constant thieving along with taking cash off drivers to stop them waiting was rife.

When the Seaforth workers went on strike for the last time everyone had had enough of them so didn’t support them.
