My 1st Christmas too, not looking forward to waking up and them not running into see me. But I cant wait to have them back tomorrow evening.

I hugged mine a little bit harder and a little bit longer when I dropped them off.

Be strong, you'll have them back in your arms before you know it. Xx

I have the opposite situation. My ex decided 3 years ago that he didn’t want to see the boys over Christmas, he’d rather just have them on his usual weekends.

Great for me, but not so great for our children.

The first time is really tough, but you can do it, just need to occupy yourselves some how.

This will be my third year without the lad, we’ll have Christmas on 28th.

So do I.

Find something that makes you happy and just get through the day, it really does get easier.

Mine is away with her mum tomorrow. I’m not feeling very Christmassy tonight as I haven’t done the routine of mince pies and milk for Santa

I'm lucky that although it's the first Christmas as a single parent mine has elected to spend tonight with me and stay until after dinner tomorrow. Not looking forward to tomorrow evening though, but you can't have it all. Really genuinely feel for those who won't. It's a tough one. Respects to you all.

I definitely feel you on this one and I too am in the same position. First year I’ve not put a tree up and haven’t had someone to buy presents for and share it with.

Big hugs all round.

My first christmas single too. Thankfully I have the kids tomorrow but I'm dreading boxing day.

I've worn myself out trying to make everything perfect, trying to make up for ruining their christmas..

I don't live with my kids, this is my second Christmas without them in the five years since I split with their dad, the first two years we has Christmas altogether.

My boys are all teenagers but doesn't mean I haven't cried like a baby this evening.

The first year I thought I'd never stop, luckily I had work to go to etc.

Even worse this year as my eldest son decided to remove himself from his dad's house (he's at uni) and caused a bit of a rift within the family, thankfully I saw him on Sunday and I am glad I did, it's Christmas and time to forgive and forget.

It does get easier but there will always be a large teenager like gap in the day.

from Home Counties to Middle Earth

It's my first Christmas without my kids and without cooking dinner for the extended hoard.

I'll be on my own today - by choice. I'm treating it as just another day and will catch up on housework and get ready for the kids coming home in a few days.

It really doesn't feel like Christmas without them.

My Son is coming over about midday and staying overnight which is good, my daughter is st her boyfriends today so I won’t see her at all.

My first Christmas on my own for 3years, lying in bed with a cuppa, all a bit sad really.

Haven't had my childern on christmas day, ever!! Written into court order... miss them everyday. But does not bother me as I personally hate christmas with a passion..

I give them love, life and experiences. Not throw away in 6 months plastic tat....

When they are older. They will remember the things they did. Not the things they had!!

Seasons greetings to all

I'm getting a bit of an old hand at Christmas on my own now, the first few years were tough and it's easy to get lost in the things that you don't have, especially when picture perfect Christmases are thrown at you from every magazine, TV and even other people.

I found that doing stuff for me was the key. Ignoring what others are doing, taking the day as it comes, one bit at a time. Finding pleasure in the little things for myself.

My heart goes out to everyone who is alone for the first time, I've been there and it really does get easier. The important thing is to just get through and find your own way.

My day hasn’t been so bad as I spent longer with my kids then I was expecting too. I have a fantastic relationship with my ex and he’s struggled with today too (we split the day). We’ve made the best out of our situation though I feel. The important thing is our kids have had a wonderful day and are so loved. I hope everyone else isn’t finding today too bad. Thanks for the kind words after my emotional post last night!

I'm in the camp where it wasn't as bad as I expected. The first of everything is always the worst.

I got my arse in gear this morning and painted the boys bedroom, just moved and it was pink. And had some lovely time with the boys though I still hate bloody Lego!!

I (Luke) got to speak to two of my three children today have have been taken to the other side of the world by their mother. We had a good chat over Skype with the older two who told me how they had been swimming today. They excitedly told me about their presents - the rollerblades, the Lego etc. It was fun. They had a good day.
