Smart Meters

I've found a new level of OCD this afternoon.
Had the Smart Meter installed and by god.... I bloody knew hoovering was a pain in the arse, but expensive as well!!!
The washing machine piles on the wattage as well.....
If you need me, ill be sat here with a dirty floor, smelly clothes and in the dark!!  |

I'm determined not to get one until it's a legal obligation!
We can't use anything less than we already do anyway, we're both very conscientious in that respect and I work from home and need to have things switched on or I can't work! |

Not health problems. That is like flat earthers.
They just cause a lot of hassle in the house, especially when getting work done.
If it wasn’t for the benefit of your provider do you think they would have done it for free? |

They don't like the cold if you have an outdoor meter know few who have been left without power for days because of it, would you leave you phone out in minus 10?? not all the suppliers use the same meters so they have to change them when you Change supplier and big brother is watching think they can also shut the power of remotely I think too it without needing access will be the last person to get one if I can |

If you sat down and worked it out with your electricity costs it’s not that bad they just use orange and red colours to make you feel bad. Unless you have the tumble drier on all day or make 300 cups of tea a day I wouldn’t worry about it. I just use mine to tell when the oven has pre-heated |

We got a new kettle because Gregor decide the old one was costing 1p more to boil than it had before. And he calculated how long at an average number of boils per day it would take to recoup the cost of the new kettle. |

I had one installed and my bills doubled.
I was renting off my aunt and because the meters cant be used by all suppliers - at the moment they all have their own (so I was told by bloke on phone) - when you switch it will just become a normal meter. So she won't be stuck with the smart meter provided she switches.

This should be your biggest worry. Instead of sending an engineer out to isolate your power. They can simply shut down your meter.
If you need to get a new DB in your house and the sparky cuts the seals to take the main fuse out too kill the power. They won’t turn you back on and will charge you for an engineer to come out.

They replace the whole meter. They need to know that it will give a radio signal to the exterior of the house once that is decided they are okay to fit.
My electricity bill has actually come down since I've had a smart meter. Mainly because it reminds me to switch things off.

They can refuse to install if the meters are not accessible. We recently had problems when it come to getting ours installed as a certain cable they have to inspect is buried in the wall and one meter is boxed in and will need re plumbing, estimated at a whole days work. Safe to say we'll be sticking to the old fashioned way  |

The sparky shouldn't be cutting the seals to pull the fuse anyway. Thier not allowed and could get fined. That's why people have isolators fitted. And if they do pull the fuse the power will still come on once the fuse has be put back in. I've never heard of the power not coming back on and certainly not heard of being charged to have the power restored. |

Heating water is another buggy. If you're not going to annoy your neighbours, it's usually best to get your power hungry chores done after 7pm or whenever the premium rate is not in force. |

I'm resistant to having one, as many are low grade, don't supposed you switching suppliers and there have been many people who have had homes damaged by their installations, where suppliers leave home customers in the lurch, not rectifying building damage etc.
It was pushed on to customers at huge cost to us, with minimal benefit and much too early, with the technology not suitable.
End result - we are all paying the price for an irresponsibile government decision, under pressure from an out of control privatised energy market. |

I’ve had one for ages I don’t pay any attention, made me think maybe I should. I had a water meter put in and had the water board send me a bill for £23 for the month, then a revised bill of £50. Said my meter must be faulty!! So I argued no my meter says xxxx so I’m paying this. They put a new meter in and the bills were generated the same, they still weren’t happy  |

Ha ha ha that stopped yonks ago. It’s all smart tech now. However my last electricity check on my home they said my house was wired to my neighbours board , fook knows how. But said he can assure me they aren’t using my electric, but could if they knew how. I’m sure being a single mum id notice!!
Mad isn’t it. My parents when we were younger moved home and after a few weeks I found a phone socket and as you do when your a teenager I plugged the phone in and it worked , but had a different phone number. I used it for about a year and no one knew!! I ended up telling my mum and she rang BT, they couldn’t understand and said don’t worry about it  |

I don't want any type of smart meter. It's handing over information as to what and how much of a utility you are using at any one time. Why do "they" need to know this?
Get wired up to the lamppost, move from gas to coal, peat or logs and dig yourself a well. Keep the fuckers guessing! |

Utility suppliers are under pressure from Govt to install Smart Meters in every home.
In turn, said companies pile pressure on customers to have one installed. I get called every quarter by my supplier.
But I say, "when it becomes legally mandatory to have one, plus all the techie bugs have been eradicated across all types, then I'll have one installed. Not before!"

Because they'll be able to analyse the peak usage times and weight it in their favour.
Want to swap suppliers to get a better deal- they'll know exactly what you use and when- all analysed and presented on screen, so they have all the answers to keep you on a deal which works best for them which you'll accept.
Maybe you have a large factory or heavy user in the area- they pay a lot of money to the utility company as part of the contract negotiated (as well as a legal team to back it up)....guess who gets cut off first in the event of a shortage of power?
My power company have been informed that i'm having one under no circumstances and if they call me one more time about installing one, they'll be told where they can shove it- swiftly followed by their service, as i'll be moving the moment they do |

Want to swap suppliers to get a better deal- they'll know exactly what you use and when- all analysed and presented on screen, so they have all the answers to keep you on a deal which works best for them which you'll accept.

It could be that in time there are variable cheaper times of the day for electricity use that can be operated on the meters remotely and working in our favour (not holding my breath for that though)
As the companies are being pushed by government to install smart meters it could be that in a while changing to alternative suppliers may be conditional on installation of a smart meter |

My old fashioned key meter works fine for me. I know exactly how much electricity I'm using. The only benefits I can see are for the utility companies. I refuse to have one and I'm sick of the phone calls from Utilita trying to harrass me into getting one and switch to them. They aren't even my supplier ffs. |

Like the provider cares what you use,they want profit.
Also,the provider is still churning out co2 like theres no tomorrow.
But hey! Blame the customer.its always our fault.
Finally,it piss's me off cos iv had to reduce the amount of times i have to recharge the batteries for my dildo.costs a fucking fortune!! |

To raise one litre of water to boiling point will use the same amount of energy no matter if the kettle is 3kW or 1.5kW.
All other things being equal such as insulation on the kettle.
Water reaches 100 degrees C long before it actually boils. |
