Apologies for creating a new thread, I ned some advice and time is short.
My neighbour is a mechanic and said he'd fix the problem. Been off the road 2 weeks now and still not sorted due to dispute with the supplier he used regarding correct part etc.
Anyway, he said he could fit it without having to re program the ecu. He works for a well known company but is he correct?
My option is
1. Supply a throttle body myself and get him to fit it or
2. Get the car towed to a garage to have them do it.
I could fit it myself but cant set the ecu

Fault code was throttle body, took of air intake and butterfly valve was trying to open bu wasn't

Ok, jump on facebook groups and find a VAG group, ask for someone with VAGCOM local to you.
The 1.2 is known for throwing various codes up.
Yes you can do it yourself if someone local to you have VAGCOM (some charge beer tokens, others don't)
Not 100% on Polo, but if stuck join Briskoda and ask for a local to help with the 1.2 (shared across the VAG platform)

Wonder if it all gunked up with old fuel? That forms a type of "gum" and a good clean can sort out the linkage as well.
Best bet is hit facebook groups and Polo forums for local help (and with my car, I can normally get anything sorted within 3 days, they are normally that helpful)

Not sure on the 1.2, but on mine, I can do a master reset without needing to code.
(just a case of disconnecting the battery and leaving for a few mins, resets the ecu and then if you have the basic code reader (around £10 on ebay) see if it throws any new codes up)
Ask if he has a TPS account, as VAG do like OE.
So yeah, should be fine.

It's possible, depends on the car. I'm not a mechanic but I am a engineer. Some throttle bodies are servo motor controlled. That's just means it's clever. It recalibrates during startup to find it position. If that's the case simple swap.
However some require setting up and then leaving alone. I know it's not much help to you but yeah... Depends on the car.
You could swap it yourself, see what happens. If not tow it to a garage and get them to set it up. |

It is a doddle to reset codes these days, but 2 weeks to attempt to clean, then fail to get part which is available in 24 hours or less... yeah you are using the wrong guy. |
