been on the phone to the hospital this morning... rang the switchboard which are only good at putting calls through, not general enquiries like they used to be...

anyway

got put to the ward three times, each time the ward didn't answer, so you get looped back to the switchboard.

said I was trying to find out information on ward x.... and the line cut and started ringing again, so I gave it up as a bad job and hung up.

Rang another number listed on the web as patient advice line, and it answered as 'bereavement services'

Chased around the patient liason and they put me through to admissions and I got the info I wanted.

What a wild goose chase!

Last week I waited 37 minutes to speak to a 'real person' at the tax office. To their credit, they were extremely helpful when I did get through. They also followed it through promptly and even received a confirmation letter within days

Tell them your name is Vodafone or Goldman Sachs and they will invite you to lunch and tell you to pay whatever amount you feel happy with.

Flybynite, do you not think such firms, with expert advice, play by the rules?

Rules as set by the Government?

Mushroom,

If / when it all comes out in the wash about the actions of the head of HMRC, Dave Hartnett in relation to a number of very "generous" settlements of tax liabilities, we will know whether everything is actually legal.

Of course, for the benefit of any swinging libel lawyers who may be reading the forum, I am not suggesting illegality on any individual's part.

I spoke to them this morning, just before 9am, found a cheque in the street that I wanted to return to the owner (pointless ringing the police as they just passed me from pillar to post) spoke to a young Scottish lad that I didn't understand who didn't know what I should do with the cheque and had to ask. After his advice, I though sod it, I will drop it round their house instead

Good luck, you will need it
