Why is it poor form to use yours sincerely/faithfully in emails.

Is it that email is an insincere way of communication.

I actually like to just sign off with my name or many thanks. Ive noticed lots of Scots and Navy type people sign off with yours aye.

There and to the left a bit

I'm not sure if it is bad form to sign off an email with Yours Faithfully etc if it's a formal message e.g. a job application covering note.

I guess the fact that most emails are less formal though has led to the various other sign offs.

I tend to vary mine dependent on the recipient - if it's work related and to a customer they'll get a "Regards", if it's work related and internal to my company it usually gets a "Thanks" and any personal messages might get a "Cheers", "Love", "With Love" or simply just my name.

That's the sort of thing I'd expect from a captain of industry or a cabinet minister, you've got it nailed.

Kind of how I operate, none of this love malarkey though.

First mail should say "kind regards" subsequent messages in the conversation then become "regards"

hoorn, Netherlands

Sure the traditional British way is 'kind regards' but if they've angered you rhen you go with the passive aggressive 'regards'

Prestonish

I only really send messages to people I know - so it’s always just

Hugs - Peachy

Or Hugs (real name)

I’m applying for office jobs again though - so unless I manage to stop myself there’ll be a few surprised faces when they get my e-mails!

Dear Chloe,

Is there is no need to follow my secretary during the hours of darkness or on really really rainy days, you can drink tea and listen to that new fangled jazz music in those circumstances.

Best regards

Jeremy.

My signature block just has “regards” and my name. I’ve only recently found out that “regards” is viewed as passive-aggressive by some!

Normally ‘kind regards’ at work but if they are pissing me off it’s just ‘regards’ lol.

For personal stuff, usual just thanks and my name.
