Hoping the firefighters can get the fire sorted safely and that it remains the case that no animals are hurt. Apparently a fire in the cafe area being tackled.
One of my favourite things is seeing the giraffes in the morning as I go to work.

My understanding is that no animals have been, but they’re (the firefighters, not the animals) still battling the fire since early this morning. Zoo closed to public today.  |

I think there’s a place for zoos to play a vital role in preserving endangered species. But we should be far more vigilant in ensuring respectful behaviour of visitors, not goading animals or the concept of peephole viewing so less intrusive. I’m with David Attenborough, he’s far more qualified than I am and he says there’s a use for zoos. But I agree with you, not all animals and not all zoos are focused (or resourced) on the absolute care of the animal first, conservation of our wild and natural habitats is vital. |

True enough.
I agree with you fundamentally that an animal is better of free but in reality if they just ran off from London zoo they'd all vanish into the ether and end up becoming under the counter specials in various markets and restaurants probably best off under the watchful eye of the keepers |
