Hi. I am thinking of buying a Dyson DC40 or DC50 asthey claim to have better suction and cleaning power compared to others .
I current have Mieles with which I am more than happy .
What is members experience of Dysons .
Is there much advantage in paying extra for the cordless one . ? What is the re charge time . ? |

Dyson and Meile are comparable.
I would stick with the Meile unless you actually need a new one.
The most common problem with suction is dirty filters.

Totally diffrent technology, Dyson are streets ahead we have had both and the cordless is amazing not cheap but you get what you pay for |

The difference really is minimal. Really, the consumer wouldn't ever see the difference out of the box. Fill the bag though and performance drops significantly.
As for the stick vacs - the Dyson V8 is bloody amazing!

I wasn't comparing the technology. I was comparing the quality of the results I got having owned both and used them both professionally for over 20 years. |

I had a dyson years ago .... I wasnt impressed ... they are probably a lot better now ...
I have a miele now .... and have had for a few years ... no complaints ....
I have a rechargeable vax too .... ok for quickness  |

Each one we've had was brilliant... for a few months and then it was shit or completely broken.
We got ourselves a Henry about 4 years ago because I noticed all the professional cleaners seemed to use them. It's still as good as it was since when we bought it. |

That's because they have very simple filters. Even plaster dust doesn't stop them. (Not necessarily a good thing though, I'm afraid!) |

Can't buy better than a kirby! £1195.00 but does carpet shampoo and hard floor Polish! Built to last 30yrs! |

I have one of those as well. I have never had a chance to assess it as the cleaner uses it in a let house .They are good value for money and a lot cheaper than Dysons

You should be able to wash filters.
Had a Dyson for over 10 years and it is still going, even after a trip down the stairs just after we bought it. Much more powerful than a lot of other brands on the market. Not had any experience with Meile to compare the two though. |

Depends what the use is for, when I did crime and trauma scene cleaning we used numatic hzd 750's, for personal home use I'd stick with the mieles.
I've used MANY hoovers of all brands and for convenience I'd never recommend any type of upright. Henry or mieles you can whip round quick, get under gaps, maneuverer easily around furniture etc. |

Basically the handheld ones have similar sucrioonpower to the uprights just they're smaller cleaner heads. The full recharge time is about 4 hours, the battery life varies from 29 min for the v6 to 40 minutes for v8...
I did my research before putting it on my Xmas list! |

You're can't buy them in the shops! You have to buy them off a kirby distributor. They come and do a demonstration and free carpet clean. They are the rolls Royce as far as I can tell. Worth every penny. Ex wife had Dysons, and Mieles, and cheaper ones but nothing got the dog hairs up like the kirby does! |

That was one of my thoughts . In theory an upright is more difficult to drag around .
I will try the Dyson out of curiosity.
The Dyson does however have a very long extension for cleaning stairs so ease of use may not so so much of an issue .
You also save on bags with Dysons .  |

Depends- probably monthly? The Meile have a permanent charcoal filter and a lightweight lint-type of filter that is disposable. When it's dirty and stops sucking (pun intended!)

Buying a Meile (which ordinarily I would reccomend) could be problematic depending on firthcoming negotiations on our relationship with the European Union, should you have any issues with it in the future
I very much doubt that anyone making any purchases right now has considered warranty matters following our exit fromthe EU |

Don't waste your money try a Numatic Henry then treat your self with the £150 left in your pocket.
You want see a Dyson being used for commercial cleaning cause it wont last but a Henry will last for 10 years + |

I have used Henrys at a work place but found they had very little power compared to a Dyson and they were hard to use, giving me back and shoulder pain and didn't pick up much dust etc. Whereas a Dyson is easy to use, very powerful and coped brilliantly even when we had major building work going on in the house. |

Dyson all the way.. I have a cordless one and it really is the best thing.. great suction, especially on pet hairs.. good on tiles and carpet.. 20 mins on each charge.... had it 5 years and still going great.. customer service is excellent too when I rang about cleaning filter.. uk call centre and very knowledgable lady helped me.. I cant complain.. my muns had miele and dyson and dyson cordless is her best too! .. phew all that excitement over a hoover.. who would have thought it.... but Harry on the other hand prefers a Henry! x  |

I've had a Henry and Miele and the Henry was better.
I know two people with the cordless Dysons and they swear by them.
I find hoses and cords are the parts that do my head in when vacuuming so I'm up for trying one of those |
