we tried to find the block button, but there doesnt seem to be one, we think its been replaced with 'show as offline to this contact' unless anyone else knows more?

Nope you're correct, MSN has removed the block feature and replaced it with the show as offline 
I haven't tried it yet with the new version of MSN but you could try downloading MSN Plus add-on (not a Microsoft product) as there was always extra features in that.  |
