hi i posted on another thread about trying to burn my fave internet porn onto dvd.. so far i can put it on to a dvd, but its not regognised by the dvd player.. i can watch it on the computer, but that defets the object.
i wanna watch it on the big plasma screen..
i have copied it using real player. and tried converting it ,, ( only converts to wmv?
any suggestions or advice please..

I think you have just burnt the movie file to a DVD much like you copy a file to a flash drive. This wont play on 90% of DVD players.
You need to convert your original movie file and author a true DVD using DVD authoring software. |

Vob files are the native files of a dvd, you can burn these directly to dvd, but for the player the recognize them you also need the .ifo & .bup , and video.ts files if you don't have these files then you can use the program 'ifoedit' to create them from the vobs, vobs usually are named thus : vts_01_1.vob
I should have look at dvdhelp on the web lots of great tools there.
consider converting to Mpeg2 which some dvd players will play, also Xbox 360 will also play avi's and Divx.

dvd players need various codecs and software on them to read avi wma wmv mp4 etc etc etc
best and simplest thing is use burning software that converts to a playable dvd - with nice menus and chapters n everything
ConvertxtoDVD4 - is a nice wee straightforward dvd build and burn

ok so I get a dvd out of the box then where do I put it? There is nowhere for it to go the only thing at the front of my tower is that coffe cup holder thingy.... |

I use BurnAware for the burning process, and there are thousands of converters out there.
Check what formats your DVD player accepts.
Also, it is worth checking what region your DVD burner in the computer is on, and what region your DVD player is on. If these are different, it will struggle. For the UK, they sould both be region 2, but be cautious when changing your DVD burners region. |

plays DivX we have one and there great, no need to convert.. these play much anything apart from mp4.
and for about 20 quid its well worth it |

we do not burn to disc here
we have a hdmi socket on the laptop
that plug into the tv
so after downloading movies we can play on the big plazma screen no probs
what sits do you down load from ?? pm us on that one please |

tried ashampoo, that converter
een trolled through the cable drawer where old cables go to rest. and no v s cable sigh.
will try again on saturday.. but thanks for all your help. xx |

I personally use DeVeDe to make discs (i use it on Linux ubuntu although it is also avalible on windows) which writes an .iso file which then needs to written to disc, i haven't needed to convert files beforehand it seems to accept most anything.
If you need a converter, i can recomend 'Mediacoder' which converts most any format to any other format.
Once you've found a system that works for you, i'd say stick to it, it just takes a little bit of trial & error...besides the failed discs make great coasters
