on the road to nowhere in particular

My frail 85 year old mother in law would love to visit us for Christmas but unfortunately is allergic to cats so around the 15th of December every year we buy a young kitten. This plays havoc with her asthma and means that she cannot visit.

Around the first week of January we get rid of it leaving us catless for the year.

A cat is for Christmas not your wife.

I'm hoping this is a joke post but as a adult with a elderly mother and a sick father in law and a cat owner, I have the horrible feeling it is not. what happened to the Christmas spirit?

If course it is

I'm lucky as I have neither a cat or a mother in law

the cat is a pest deterrent

The past drank all the Christmas spirit, mainly two bottles of gin

I wish I could have something to deter my mother in law, I can handle a day with the ex husband that's like an everyday thing but having her round I'm starting to get all nervous and feel sick at the thought of spending a day with a woman that clearly doesn't like me anymore

We also hang garlic on the front door and all opening windows in case the cat escapes.
