I am not ashamed to say that a persons accent/brogue plays a part with regards meeting them.
What accents do it for you, or make you cringe?
Would it influence if you met them or not?

Love the Southern Irish accent makes my spine tingle. And the Liverpool accent, that just makes me go weak at the knees.
Not keen on the geordie or brummie accents, wouldnt stop me from playing....
...... ball gags are great things.

it would seem that geordie and irish accents do it for most of us- makes me damp just chatting to someone from those areas. tho wouldn't influence whether i'd meet them or not it depends on the person as a whole. |

I used to think that some accents were a turn off
I had my mind changed though
Its now the tone and depth of a voice that has the potential to be a turn off more than the accent |

My can't stand are a lot actually lol Welsh being the worst..
I do love a scots accent lol
I always call people before meeting them and will actually not meet if accent turns me off.

dont mind accents at all
i tend to start mimicking them after a while which is embarrassing on my part
have to say i hate hearing white folk putting on a yardie accent
drives me nuts |

A lot depends on the tone of the accent. I love softly spoken Scottish and Irish ladies. West Country for me has to be a little bit louder, same with Suffolk and Norfolk. Scouse girls can be quite loud too - I love to hear Lilly Savage! |

I dont mind accents at all, some are more difficult to understand that others. I do find a Liverpudlian accent or a Glaswegian accent a bit difficult to understand at times. I quite like the Birmingham accent and the Black Country accent of the staff at Chams. Neither of us originated from Birmingham so we dont have that accent |

At meetings with colleagues around the country they seem to get great pleasure in asking me to 'talk like Cheryl Cole' which causes amusement. Well its worth it' because they used to ask me do 'do Jimmy Nail' at one point so its a bit of an improvement I guess... also they ask for Paul Gascoigne during that stand-off in the summer with his fishing rod, dressing gown and chicken .. blushing here.... because I can do them all |

It's a form of mirroring, can be either direct or postural.
the person I've noticed do it the most is David Bowie. He seems to have about 4 different accents which he tailors to suit whoever he is talking to.
Michael Parkinson pissed him off a few years ago during a chat about 9/11. Bowie started rebutting him in a Yorkshire accent (Bowie's father was also from Yorkshire)
The last tour of his was filmed in Dublin. Bowie introduces the songs inan Irish accent.
Tra used to be a Corporate Receptionist,if I phoned her at work I never recognised her voice. far too posh. for someone from Bermondsey anyway |

I have a friend who, when we go on holiday either to Greece or Spain, she will speak english but with a Greek / Spanish lilt when she is speaking to waiters. |

i'm quite drawn to the north east accent, dont have to be full on geordie just anywhere around that area will do |

As a london girl living up north, I find the fact that I have a private school girled london accent goes down well when I bother..
Lol My accent has over the years taken on a few traits of being up here.. but on the whole I can still speak "properly" as my late mother would have said.
She spent a vast amount of money having me taught to be a lady.. Think she should ask for her Money back.. :D

Accents I find a turn off are German and African accents...they sound so guttural. Most others I don't find offensive per se, it's more to do with the timbre.
A man could look like Daniel Craig, but if he opened his gob and sounded like Joe Pasquale...major turn off!!! |

It wouldn't prevent me from meeting someone I liked, but some accents are ugly-sounding. Scouse, Manc and Geordie top my list, with the Brummie accent not far behind.
Top of my list of favourite accents is Welsh... I'm a sucker for it.
I also like the Canadian accent - but not American ones, which I find much harsher.
As for the "toff" accent, well I love it when a posh bird swears |

not sure that I have found an accent here that has turned me off...some I cannot fully understand at times...lol...but have not turned me off.Guys seem to like my accent...not sure why...but I guess we all think that about our own don't we?when first getting to know someone and I say I am originally from Canada but have been here 7 years the next question is usually..."ohhh do you still have your accent?" lol |

I like scottish accent but not scottish slang. Met scottish lass 6years ago and thats how i ended up here. Also like poshish southern english accent. Common accents make me shiver.  |
