"I do have a fast car can put it in to over drive go 140 easy "

I don't think that is the answer. Why not let them by at the lights, if you have overdrive then its an old car and you are best not pushing it too much.

When they pull alongside me at traffic lights I smile, wink, nod at the road ahead, rev the engine full throttle, spin the wheels, wait for them to roar off, and then I slip it in 2nd gear and tootle off at 10mph.

I had this at the weekend when I was out in the DB9, lad pulled up next to me in a Golf, kept looking over revving, I looked at him, winked, the lights turned to green and he floored it, I just pulled away slowly, caught up to him at the next set of lights, he looked at me and shouted, thought you wanted to race? I pointed to the car behind him, the police had clocked his speeding and was flashing him the look on the lads face was priceless

why should they not drive because they feel intimidated by boy racers? and what have wagons got to do with it?

Personally id just let them go by

I have three nice cars, one an M5. None of them usually go over any speed limits and I put that down to me becoming a better driver as I have got older...

Either that or 9 points has had an effect!!!

Well if you feel so uncomfortable driving you could be a danger to other road users so it is best not to drive and a wagon will make more noise than some kid in his big exhaust corsa that is what a wagon has to do with it.

Just as the lights are about to change, give them the finger and burn them off. At the next lights let them pull up beside you , wind down your window and say "Come back when you get a faster car, my gran drives her mobility scooter faster than you" then flick the end of a lit ciggie in their car before muttering "tosser".

Your lucky we have more wagons around here than anything. You do need to be confident on the road because if your not its dangerous to you and everyone else. Turn the music up and ignore them is the best option.

In all honesty... no I wouldn't.

I'd let them burn me off at the first lights, and the next set and the next set.... then once they have their false sense of security, I'd call them a tosser, give them the finger and let them eat dust behind me.

" Just drives me mad at times. How do you cope ?"

I have had fast cars until the last 7 months.. Till then the way I would deal with it would be to look at them mostly as if to say "please boys.. I would eat you for breakfast"...

My favorite thing to do was this though.. Let them rev.. as I knew lights were changing.. bring car up to perfect bite and launch.. and then laugh at there bemused little faces when they came past me alittle later on.. :D

or.. even funnier.. Rev back, with a proper engine.. And then just sedately pull off as they scream off the lights.

However, now I have a slow car I just think.. Oh the days..

I love coming across these lads on track days.. They are not so bolshy when they have gone a few laps and been in the kitty litter once or twice.

Last day I did they about laughed when I turned up for the day.. I was marshalling that day but also running it.. and when I had a break I was on there.. Soon shut up when I set the 2nd fastest time in almost the least powerful car..

However I happend to have hours of laps at that circuit and knew that it was to twisty for the big bhp cars to make use of it.. only advantage they had was on the straight..

I am guilty many a time of showing them that even my zafira does have 150bhp. lol.. Upset the little engined lads.. they sit there revving, not realising if its on the wrong bit of the rev range when lights change that they will stall, kangaroo.. or just rip the clutch to bits..

Yes I know its not what you should do.. but sometimes I cant help myself.. :D

I`ll never be able to burn them off in my tractor but if they carve me up and I end up right behind them in traffic, I pull up behind them with the front loader over the top of their roof with them wondering why the hell it`s suddenly gone dark!

I generally ignore them, they are just little children with big toys.

However, I can get irritated with them at times. One time I was tootling along in my 27 year old Land Rover (painted with green emulsion and looking a little ratty) and some little child in a 1.2 'hot hatch' irritated me by laughing at my landy!!!! Now if this little oik new anything about land rovers he would have thought "wonder whats under the bonnet?" but he didn't. In this case it was a range Rover 3.9 V8

I am not sure who was the most embarrassed, him or his girlfriend

Lol.. Did you show him how when you revved your engine made your whole car twitch... and then plant the pedal and hear that little switch.. lol

I did that to a 1.1 saxo.. Left him looking rather stunned at the lights.. ( this was in a 4.2 rangerover) lol

It has to be done..

Thats it! I`ve definately got to finish off my good `ole 1967 Series 2a Landy off! Not quite a 3.9 but a 3.5 Vanden Plas is slumbering away ready to be kicked back into life! It should look brilliantly crap because it`s been sat under an apple tree for over 10 years!

Didn't give it the rock n roll before hand ...why warn the idiot

unfortunately the V8 had to go as the engine didn't suit the purpose It is now a 200Tdi

Much as I dissaprove of boy racers you have to watch out, some of them are faster than they look, I had a 1982 Ford Cortina with a 220bhp V6 in it, because they are quite light (being old cars without all the safety stuff in) it had 210bhp per ton which would give it a better power to weight ratio than a modern supercharged Jag.

0-60 was about 6 seconds and it hit a brick wall aerodynamically at around 145mph, you'd have a job burning it off from the lights in most cars and i have frieds who have mk1 Escorts that weigh around 800kgs and they run 350bhp Cossie turbo engines, 160mph+ and Ferrari style acceleration.

My mate has a blackbird and says he just vanishes off into the distance when cars give chase, he said the only thing that ever suprised him was a 3 door cossie, he still left it, it just took him a few seconds longer to get away from it, it must have had some work done on it as it was still picking up speed at 150mph (on the Autobahn occifer)

i get little chavvy boys in there novas or corsas or whatever hatchback covered in body kits with gigantic cans sticking out the back, trying to race me all the time, i think really they know they cant beat a gsxr, but just are having some fun.

Occasionally when i'm feeling playful or the real idiots come along i like to let them pull away first then piss all over them but i try n save it for somewhere where i wont potentially kill anyone if i can help it.

They are a crazy bunch, i've been coming home from work late at night on the motorway at 100ish, and they fly past trying to egg you on... maybe they'll grow up at some point

"I love these threads. You just know your going to get the my car is bigger/better/faster/more expensive than yours thing at some point.

Well tip for you all. Buy a Lada! I never have boy racer problems in mine "

Know what you mean BigBad....always brings out the guys who have bigger exhaust tail pipes than their cocks.

im sure when we were young we all raced around on something or another.

cars are more available and cheaper so once young people get a license they will naturally put the foot to the floor for a while.

when i was old enough to obtain a license it is motorbikes or scooters and we were just as crazy and dangerous.

just moves on with the times.

You sound very much like one of protagonists your self. Doing 100ish and getting involved in street racing with others would pretty much make you one of the idiots your on about as I see it.

it does become worrying when people do race or pretend to race on the roads because there are a lot of things out of our control.

to easy to make a mistake and for what.

if they want to burn off from the lights just let them go, no prizes handed out.

"Much as I dissaprove of boy racers you have to watch out, some of them are faster than they look, I had a 1982 Ford Cortina with a 220bhp V6 in it, because they are quite light (being old cars without all the safety stuff in) it had 210bhp per ton which would give it a better power to weight ratio than a modern supercharged Jag.

0-60 was about 6 seconds and it hit a brick wall aerodynamically at around 145mph, you'd have a job burning it off from the lights in most cars and i have frieds who have mk1 Escorts that weigh around 800kgs and they run 350bhp Cossie turbo engines, 160mph+ and Ferrari style acceleration."

lol.. My funniest time was a lad in a 1.4 corsa.. He asked me at a set of lights if I thought I had a hope.. I looked across and laughed..

His answer " your a woman, dont matter you cant drive"..

Its the one time I totally and I mean totally launched my car on the road.. The fact its 0-60 was 3.8ish seconds which is comparable with a lot of motorbikes meant I really wasnt threatened by him.. but it was his attitude and I just so much enjoyed seeing his face drop.. lol

It was 11pm, and we were only cars.. and yes really I should have let it go..

The other funny one was my lotus engined Metro.. people would think it was slow because it was a metro.. but it was actually capable of a 13.9 sec 1/4 mile.. was light and good bhp. lol

Fond memories of driving very old landies around on gravel and going a lot faster than you would expect.

Fields were always a pain as a small hole could be very painful.

I got bikes. Dont often get bothered by lads in cars. But when i do its just a case of crackin the throttle open for a few secs. They dont realise you got 1hp per kilo. Tidy.

Back of Beyond

When they come right up behind you, real close, floor it and keep your eye on the mirror. They'll do the same and as soon as they are making speed. Hit your brakes really hard, lock em up if you have to.

You get rear ended, whiplash loads of insurance payout, maybe new car. Hopefully they will get or have enough points on their license to have it taken away. just make sure to dial 999 and have the police in attendance.

At the moment i have an old Suzuki Vitara with a knackered soft top and green moss all over it, the only races it sees are people trying to get out of it quick enough they dont get spotted.

I do have a Mk3 Cortina estate thats been converted into a van and fitted with the longer two door doors though, its just a shell at the moment, waiting for a cheap V8 to turn up for it.

Pulled up to a set of lights once in me Renault Clio. Guy next to me revved his engine. Guy infront of me revved his engine. I didn't bother, one was a Ferrari, the other was a Lambo. Not a chance!

The other example was again pulling up to some lights. Kiddie in a 205Gti (1.9 mind!) revs his engine, so we rev ours. Lights go green, we sit and wait. Kiddie boots it off down the road. We count to 5, slip the Caterham into 1st and pootle off after him. Passed kiddie at about a ton. Should have seen the look on his face

"When they pull alongside me at traffic lights I smile, wink, nod at the road ahead, rev the engine full throttle, spin the wheels, wait for them to roar off, and then I slip it in 2nd gear and tootle off at 10mph. "

Sadly not mine.

I believe it was a "warmed over" 2 litre pinto, but when the car weighs little more than a fag packet, it was easily enough. Plus the guy in the gti couldn't drive for shit lol
