When closing a thread can you contact me first please ?
The amount of times I have taken time to carefully craft a response only to press 'post message' and find 'thread closed by moderator' is quite frankly, becoming alarming !
So next time, if there's a thread you think 'oh clever arse in the corner might chip in on this one' just a quick message to say 'save your fat fingers for another cos this one's a goner' would be most appreciated.

She was very matronly. There used to be a single male mod many moons ago. I don't know if he's still here. I like ruggers though, they seem fair.

One of them guide lines should be they don't use the sites for meets on sites like this in my opinion .
over wise they can become compromise as meeting site members for fun can lead to clicks developing .

I've done the job myself on a fan forum Xbox related and as anyone will tell you gamers are a opinionated bunch very passionate about there hobby .
I gave it up because I'm not a machine I have opinions myself and in my time grow to like a few of the regular posters on their even playing with them over Xbox live from time to time .
I had to sit with the guide lines at the side of my laptop to remind myself of what was expected of me at all times .now there were times I'm sure I was harder on people I had gamed with because I had to keep my integrity intact.
Now everyone knew I was a mod it was above my user name any abuse to a mod was a auto one day time out other mods reviewed my decisions on bans when their was a dispute and if I was deemed to be in the wrong I was given a warning three warning in a year would lead to my mod status being removed .
All those rules and many more were there to keep us impartial three months before I gave up moderating a new guide line was passed and that was we didn't game with site members .
I left my post because of that reason as it met I had to leave my gaming clan so I gave up moderating so I could still play with my clan.
Anyone who claims total impartiality is not human in my book again just my opinion based on experience of the job . |

On a separate, but related, note...
Should I be worried that on the summary list, one of the mods is the last poster, but when I checked the actual thread, it's still me?
Has someone else worked out how to post using invisible ink, or should I be worried?

Oh I was cut out for it I did it for over 4 years only ever had one review go against me in that time .
I'd say its good to know your human and act accordingly I'd even ask another mods opinion before bringing the ban hammer down if i though I was about to make a mistake based off of my dealing with the individual involved in the past
I viewed it as it cost me nothing to get a second opinion if I had any doubt I was acting out of any other reason than a breach of the rules . |

All of what you described in your posts happens here too. Mods consult each other if needed especially if someone is digging against the mod. Admin lets Mods know if they think they have things wrong and bans are overturned. The only thing I would say doesn't happen is sitting with the rules and instructions next to you. Unless the rules change Admin expect us to know them. |

I think I have a friendly or inconsequential relationship with the mods (the ones I know of, anyway), and I've still had threads deleted or posts removed. And rightly so (when I think about it in a clearer frame of mind, I can see why they were deleted).
I think the mods are generally fair in their decisions. Most people on the forum don't meet eachother for sex anyway, so the chances of that kind of conflict of interest are rather low. In my opinion.

Totally agree I had the rules there because I was firstly a gamer myself so just as passionate about my hobby as the posters on the site .
So with the rules always in my eye line it kept m in check reminded he why I was there so to speak .
I took the moderating role because I was passionate about my hobby left for the same reasons passion for my hobby was not willing to stop playing with friends in my clan tried to stop playing with them but thought you know what I've been a mod time to just be the gamer again so I can play with who I want .
I was not criticizing ' fully aware of how hard the job is and the pit falls I happen to agree with the not socializing rule when it was brought in as it stopped all the complaints about bans that start with he only banned me because he games with ......you can guess the rest . |

One of them guide lines should be they don't use the sites for meets on sites like this in my opinion .
over wise they can become compromise as meeting site members for fun can lead to clicks developing .

I think I have a friendly or inconsequential relationship with the mods (the ones I know of, anyway), and I've still had threads deleted or posts removed. And rightly so (when I think about it in a clearer frame of mind, I can see why they were deleted).
I think the mods are generally fair in their decisions. Most people on the forum don't meet eachother for sex anyway, so the chances of that kind of conflict of interest are rather low. In my opinion.

I agree sort of I could not shut a post down or issue a ban with out sighting the breach in rules to the person involved .
Then they could issue a complaint against my decision knowing it was me who banned them or shut down their post and my reasons for doing so they could be questioned .
I acted on the rules and one of them rules was I must issue what rule was being broken when acting .
That's how we moderated and tried to keep it above reproach |

I took the moderating role because I was passionate about my hobby left for the same reasons passion for my hobby was not willing to stop playing with friends in my clan tried to stop playing with them but thought you know what I've been a mod time to just be the gamer again so I can play with who I want .
I was not criticizing ' fully aware of how hard the job is and the pit falls I happen to agree with the not socializing rule when it was brought in as it stopped all the complaints about bans that start with he only banned me because he games with ......you can guess the rest . "
I get everything you said, it is a fine line sometimes and why the mods will step back and let someone else deal with it if needed.
To your initial point of should you be swinging too, as dirty says, Mods can separate the two, like you must have done (but then we don't play with anyone from the forum anyway)
Having said that,even though Admin choose the mods as they think they are impartial and can join in as well as Mod....I tend to not join in too much because if I disagree with someone over whether a bacon butty should have brown sauce instead of red and that person gets banned six months after for calling someone a T*** I get accused of banning them for disagreeing with them.
