i dislike people swearing without reason(if ever there is a reason to swear)just a lack of vocabulary.

what i really detest is the way young people talk,i dont mean toddlers, but teenagers,i can never make out a word they say,so not a particular word, just certain lingo,if that makes sense?

I am a huge fan of etymology , the evanesence of language and how it rolls and moves with time and fashion.

I have said that because ..........

I typed a short list of words that are powerfully abhorrent to me and I found I couldn't carry on and couldn't even submit them. It was like saying them in public.

unnecessary swearing, some or most kids seem to think swearing in a sentence makes it more meaningful

What puzzles me is how a word becomes a swear word or offensive in the first place

Some have obvious reasons but others dont

Its a bit like flowers and s

Who decides these things??

Ha! it was naughty. I THINK these things - I just am unable to say them. Incidentally - I don't even say the Fuff word in company ,though I can type that in the forum.

I think it's because it has fallen into familiar usage. I was 'told off' - let's say he broached the subject yesterday by a 'playmate' i'd not seen for a year about swearing twice - as he was stunned to hear me swear. I blame this fucking forum.

Minge, grrrrrr, I bloody hate it.

I met with a woman once and it was the only word she would use, even when we'd had the discussion about this exact thing so we wouldn't make either if us feel uncomfortable. Being asked to 'lick her minge' was a complete turn off, and I had to make my excuses (as the news of the world would say.)

The words Fellatio and cunnilingus

Ive never liked them since I first read them

Reply privately, Reply in forum +quote or View forums list

By (user no longer on site)  over a year ago

I don't find anything in English offensive at all, mostly because it's not my language.

But, I do love etymology (something I studied) - for instance the word none of you will type without a * has it's roots in a simple word describing a wedge, or small hillock.

Very technical aren't they? A bit like listening to trials where they say 'they then performed intercourse'

Also, really, there is no good word for Vagina, is there? Nothing sounds nice, or sexy. Most are preposterously silly or exceptionally medical.

Pussy is the only one I'll use and I feel daft saying it.

when 10 million ITV viewers saw former Sex Pistol John Lydon use the C-word, fewer than 100 complained.

Germaine Greer, who had previously published a magazine article entitled "Lady, Love Your Cu@t", discussed the origins, usage and power of the word in the BBC series Balderdash and Piffle. She suggested at the end of the piece that there was something precious about the word, in that it was now one of the few remaining words in English that still retained its power to shock(wiki)

There is something about social context though...... cos I LOVE saying them in my head so maybe it's not long before they are acceptable banter.

Hi I'm employed by the Oxford Dictionary to make up words and one of my favourites was when they requested I invent a swear word slightly less offensive than c**t but still pretty unpleasant.

After months of research I managed to splice the genetic code of c**t and that of twat to produce a hybrid word...

TWUNT!

I have already started using it regularly as have my friends and family. Expect it to be rolled out into dictionaries before the end of the year!

Partner, when used to describe someone you have only been in a relationship with for five minutes. But the word i hate more than anything else in the english language is the word telly, dont ask me why but it grates on every nerve in my body even presenters say it now, im really not good with slang words at the best of times although i do use them at times.

Favourite words in the english language are twilight and twat

I rather like 'cunt' as well, it's got a good, earthy, Anglo-Saxon ring to it. I try to avoid using it as an insult, though.

tracy worked with a woman a few years ago who was HOT. tracy told me that during a conversation with said woman she had said i was "nice"

nice? fucking nice? i'd much rather be thought of as a "bit of a lad" or even "a bit of a bastard.

"i dislike the word..fanny xx"

See to mean it means a persons name... A beautiful friend of mine in France... She's mid twenties and one of two lovely daughters of some dear friends of mine...

Fanny xxxxxx is a lovely attractive young woman... Yes at first it's a funny name... Evokes a saucy giggle or a laugh but I'm use to her name now... It reminds me of her... her lovely nature and she just has that whole French thing about her... fashion... class... beauty... accent... flirts? She is a gem!
