"Laptop got knocked off the table, now the screen has gone wrong.

Recently changed a laptop screen for a friend. A 15inch screen to buy was £70 (cheaper ones were available but lower resolution) and under an hours time to fit it. A PC repair shop wanted to charge her £40 for the fitting, so it can be quite expensive.
As said above, some Insurance Companies will pay out for "accidental damage" and you would only pay your excess whatever that may be on your policy. Always best to check with them first.  |

If you don't actually use your laptop other than around the house it might be worth considering buying an external monitor. Cheaper than a repair and you'll probably get a bigger screen too. |

There was me thinking ooooo Ive never heard of a diaply panel,I wonder what that is and what it does 
To the OP I am thinking house insurance so put a claim in and get a new one if its going to be too expensive to fix x |

You would be better off buying a new one.Sounds like there is damage to one of the pcb,s(printed circuit board)and the cost of repairing, you would probably nearly have the cost of a new one.Try your house insurrance.I recently switched from a laptop to a desk top and its far better than the laptop. |

with a lap top the problems are that there is less space between the componest and if you drop them one item my develop a fualt this in most cases is the hard drive disk works lose and will cost around £140 to replace includeing labour but you may lose all items stored on laptop  |

Tell them it wasn't dropped, will be under warranty. Down to them to prove it was damaged by you and the customer is always right.
If they don't play ball tell them you will be contacting consumer direct, usually gets retailers to play ball.
