Maybe you had it mashed with carrots darling.
Swede has always been a creamy / whitish colour.
Im really thrilled you said swede. Most mistake them for turnips.
Maybe there were orangey breeds too.

"Swedes and turnips change names depending on where in the country you are..
Over here.. they are bright orange and raw look like mangelwurzels "
turnips are the smaller white ones
swedes are the larger brown/orange
if that helps

Swede is better looking compared with a celeriac, and I prefer the latter, grated, and mixed with mayo and French mustard, one of my favourite salad! Yum yum!!!  |

HUH? Swede at school was always organge. You could spot it a mile away and start coming up with an excuse as to why you didn't want it long before the server brought it to the table. Never seen so much orange colour in exactly the same place on 300 dinner plates before lol |

I think there must be different varieties...... most are creamy white now. |

Kitten im going bonkers here..... Turnips are little white things...... sometimes with purple tops ....
Swede is the big ugly bugger thats hard to peel but I SWEAR to god it's not orange when I peel it ....
I want a SWEDE meet! Everyone has to bring a swede .... |

Thinking of it, if you peel it thinly then some of the flesh is whitish
If you attack it with.a carving knife and hack the skin of, the inside is orangeey
Boiled and drained, without a doubt orange mash
