The potteries old dialect was to say the least interesting lol

An example of this was (spelling my be wrong but read as seen)

"Cos kick a bow agin a wow

An ed it wiv thee ed until it bosts

If thee cosna do it na thee never wut"

Translation

"Can you kick a ball against a wall

And head it with your head until it bursts

If you cant do it now you never will"

Do you lot have any similar sayings from your neck of the woods?

And no it ain't used anymore lol thank god xx

The potteries dialect is still very strong in some parts. My colleagues can tell when I've been 'home' for the weekend and especially when I've seen my grandparents who speak very broad potteries as I pick it back up very easily when I've spent time with family.

the term 'canny' is very difficult to explain to an non geordie. its something you learn with life and use on a daily basis:

he's a canny bairn - he's a lovely, sweet, nice person

thats canny big that like! - thats rather large!

gan canny! - watch what you're doing!

so many varieties lol
