pub opening times

Maybe I'm sooooo stuck in my ways, but I can't get head around this 24hr licensing.

I remember when you went to the pub till 11pm (1030 Sun), then to a club till 2am.

A pub in town is now open till 5am

, is there any point to nightclubs these days?
