Conditioning from youth. Expectations and pressure from family. The usual.
How many claim to be believers but ever go to church at times other than births/weddings/deaths? The majority I think you'll find.

I don't and so we didn't get married in a church or have my kids christened. It would have felt wrong to do either. I was christened even though my parents are not religious - me and my sis were sent to Sunday school then to church with an elderly relative, I stopped going as soon as I had a choice. |

I was christened and my parents never go to church unless its a wedding etc.
I'm not religious and as such didn't get married in church nor have I had my son christened. I actually turned down being a godparent to a friends child as it wouldn't of been right. |

There is an element of fear involved with christenings. It is your childs entry into the church. Some parents I know have had their chid christened rather than fear eternal damnation when their child dies...
I was married in a church because I have a faith. Doesn't mean I go to church every Sunday nor stick to the teachings religiously. But my faith us there. |

Life is strange all round I went to a wedding last year in a big church and the full vows were taken yet both of them were in the scene. I guess people have their own reasons for doing things even if others don't see them. |
