Do You Give Blood

Did it via work a couple of times. But the y have seemed to have stopped asking companies to ask their employees. I am sure a lot of people would do it if it means an hour or so out of work. |

I gave once and it had such a bad effect on me that they advised against. Then I got ill and can't anymore.
I am grateful to those who do though as a transfusion has made a real difference to my life. |

Used to, then I was deemed not suitable as I was considered as a malaria risk (very low risk, however, there was still a risk), and they did not have the ability to screen for malaria.
Not bothered since then.

Nope because according to them my blood isn't good enough. It actually annoys me quite a lot as I would give regularly if it wasn't for their stupid rules. |

I used to give blood at work. I remember during the initial AIDS epidemic that a lot of haemophiliacs and people who needed blood transfusions contracted AIDS because of imported blood from the USA. As I remember people in the USA were being paid to give blood. Consequently, drug addicts and the like were giving contaminated blood. I wonder if it is still being imported? |

Type 2 Diabetics can still donate blood, it does depend on what medication you are on though, if you are on insulin you can't |

Don`t think they do anymore, possibly why blood service is always asking for donors, I feel quite proud of being a donor, to think I may have saved someone`s life ,,,,, |

Blood donors are to be congratulated for the selfless act of giving blood. Perhaps if people were made more aware that in certain situations as many as 80 units of blood products or more can be used in any one surgical emergency. Thats why more donors are really needed... To all those thinking about it... Please do it x |

I am not allowed to as I have hemachromatosis, my body absorbs too much iron so it has too high ferritin levels in it.I have to go to the hospital once a week for them to take a pint,(to thing out the iron levels)but it is just thrown out |

There must be reason they say your blood aint good enough am assuming its on medical grounds. The stupid rules are to protect donor and more importantly those who may need it. Bit of a vague crass comment. |

I used to but they asked me to stop after 10 times as I was a slow bleeder and they could harvest a gallon in the time it took me to squeeze mine out!
I then was diagnosed with diabetes so as an insulin user I couldn't.
Am ever grateful to the donors who saved my life after I gave birth to my first child .... or maybe I got my 10 pints back!! |

I used to 20+ years ago then one time I went and they said they didn't want it coz I'd been diagnosed with MS. I argued that it couldn't be passed on via the blood and the girl at the reception desk said that MS is the same as AIDS ... OMG how wrong could she possibly be???
Then 3 yrs ago I was informed by the MS consultant that it is actually an Auto Immune Disease (AID), although it can't be passed on through blood, bodily fluids, etc ... so the receptionist all those years ago was sort of right but also very, very wrong and I worry how many people she scared half to death by telling them that  |

Thanks bb. Will look into it as I'm notion insulin yet. It's something I do want to do if I can. |

I used to but fell out of the habit cos Im so slow they didn't take a full pint. Part ones can be used for testing but not to give to people.
I'm currently having treatment which precludes me from donating, but i will try again when i get the all clear. |

Yes I give blood regularly and have done for the past 20 odd years! My blood type is O neg so it's always in demand! It only takes half an hour and they make a lovely cup of tea |
