apparently they are freezing council tax, scrapping fuel prices to go up and giving people better and lower electric bills.. hmmm see it when i believe it lol x |

I got my council tax bill Monday and sorted my direct debit. It went UP!
I'm sad and will watch it, well have it on in the background. But I dont expect any favours coming my way  |

glad for them... us in the public services have had a 1% pay rise extended for yet another year....
so basically for the 5th consecutive year... we get a real term pay cut |

on paper thats looks interesting.... so on a £100,000 mortgage... it is worked at at 5% deposit... 20% govt loan... and 75% mortgage...
single persons tax allowance... going up in apr 2014 from 9440 to 10000...... that was a lib dem committment in the coalition agreement... |

Employer NI contribution cut also looks interesting, particularly as NI (technically) is what pays for the welfare bill. |

I was getting worried that Milli was just going to stick to the jibes but he's finally putting some figures out in response on the top rate tax cut. The timing of the changes is the pertinent bit. |

Milliband was very good as you say came back with figures. No matter hiw its dressed up the millionaires get tax rebate in april and yet help for childcare costs not starting for 2 years. Quite disgraceful as how are folk already struggling meant to cope.
We cannot in my _iew justify guaranteeing overseas aid to help worlds poor when the poor here are being hammered. If we as country were better off then yes increase help to others but we are told to cut our expenses.
Finally when milliband pressured the coalition about if they personally will gain from tax rate rebate.

Was just in town a random person said budget good as fuel coming down i told him its not as uts just not going up there is massive difference. I tried to explain an increase is not an increase until it actually goes up. Somehow sums up the gullibility of folk. |

I've had to explain that inflation means going up as well.
A VAT cut would be have had more an effect but I suppose that will wait until next year. |

I think the house building stimulus will be interesting to watch. It's hard to guess whether the Employer NI cut is enough to stimulate taking on extra people, it looks marginal to me. |

True . but all the efforts is still not convincing as they give in one hand and take back with the other hand plus a leg
We need a real stimulus. How many small companies will hire new staff if they are not sure of surviving for 2 years???

well in the independant report into care costs that the government commissiones even they said that in todays money it should be 50-60,000... so accounting for inflation, that may not be that far off the higher value....
in the care debate in parliament, david milliband (ed bro) made the suggestion that the cap be set at 26k .. and to pay for this, the savings in benefits would offset the costs in care... which actually is not the worst suggestion and is very clever... |

It's no good giving employers lower NI contribs to generate jobs if the orders aren't there. This is giving breathing space to employers who would otherwise have to lay staff off. A smart move by George.
As for the govt guarantee on newbuilds, I think the govt has just replaced the Bank of Dad in helping first time buyers find a home and I'm gobsmacked nobody has done it before. The govt are only guaranteeing 20%, not putting the money up front - that comes from the mortgage lenders and/or builders, and it will only become payable by the govt if a homeowner defaults on his mortgage. It's a brilliant move and one that could kick start the housing sector whilst costing the taxpayer sod all in real terms.
1p off a pint of beer? I can't remember the last time a pint cost anything other than a figure ending in a 5 or a 0, so I don't foresee my local dropping a pint from £2.30 to £2.29 anytime soon. He should have made if 5p so that we could see the prices coming down, but he's opted for a token gesture of 1p as if to say "well, at least I didn't put it up!" |
