I’ve had a terrible experience today when out with my family. And it was bad in and of itself but it was also super triggering. I’m currently about to spend some time sitting in my feelings and maybe writing. Trying to avoid Lots of anger.

What do you do to overcome triggering experiences or just really horrible ones?

Carlisle usually

I cuddle my dogs and word vomit it out. The mutts haven't got much input on situations in general, but sometimes hearing it aloud really helps me straighten out some of the chaos.

The dot in the i

The only thing I personally found to help when I get like that is to distract myself by studying myself, if that makes sense

For recourses I use MITocw because it’s free and comprehensive

Sort of sitting with myself and figuring out how I feel, why, what caused it and how I can get beck to myself again

But who likes orange soda?!!

I feel you. So much.

I've done nothing but cry for days. So I'm not much use to be fair. But I feel it.

I don’t have dogs but maybe I’ll either write it down or tell my cat!

Those triggering moments are exhausting as they rob one of energy! Quite frankly it's precious time that could be put to good use elsewhere. For me and family over the years, I've had to create boundaries! We're meant to be happy in this lifetime. Some people will never know the art of people skills especially respect. Drama is debilitating and useless and many times it's perpetuating family traumas. The buck stops with us! Good luck OP x

This is powerful. That’s what I want. To have some healthy coping mechanisms.

Take your anger out on the person who triggered you. Alternatively, brush it off and remember that whoever that person is, is a dickhead and doesn't deserve a second thought.

I hate that this has happened. I’m so sorry for your experience and the cruelty of it cascading beyond the immediate experience too. Ground yourself, and yea process the feelings. Know that you are very much loved. I cry. I reflect and feel strongly, even anger if it’s there. I turn to my friends and loved ones to remind me of all that I cherish. I reach out to make someone else feel good as that shifts things on for me. I think about what I can do to make a difference. And I forgive, for my sanity not because I’m negating what’s happened - it’s entirely selfish but may not be appropriate for your situation.

Here if I can do anything. Love you

Mr Pickle, we're sad to hear about your bad experience today. We find talking to each other and "putting the world to rights" is at least cathartic. It's even worse when your kids witness or are party to bad experiences, we know that too, so depending on age, it might be worth talking through with them, in as rational and objective a way as you can. It's horrible for children to learn that not every person in the world is nice

I suppose I'm lucky that I don't get triggered easily.

If I did I'd talk to myself in my head, as if I'm talking to someone else.

Speak to friends buddy.

Safe to say we clash on here, but never like seeing people down.

It’s a gorgeous day, get yourself a pina colada, perhaps a bit of cake and tell yourself “fuck ‘em”!

It’s the only thing I found to help, it’s something I do bang on about probably too much but it’s such a useful tool not many seem to know about and I firmly believe everyone should have access resources without preamble which it seems to offer

ill stop rambling now

Awwwe! Here goes!

Tatooine

When I get tiggered I like to sing this song:

The wonderful thing about tiggers

Is tiggers are wonderful things!

Their tops are made out of rubber

Their bottoms are made out of springs!

They're bouncy, trouncy, flouncy, pouncy

Fun, fun, fun, fun, fun!

But the most wonderful thing about tiggers is

I'm the only one

Tiggers are cuddly fellas

Tiggers are awfully sweet

Ev'ryone el-us is jealous

That's why I repeat... and repeat

The wonderful thing about tiggers

Is tiggers are marvelous claps!

They're loaded with vim and vigor

They love to leap in your laps!

They're jumpy, bumpy, clumpy, thumpy

Fun, fun, fun, fun, fun!

But the most wonderful thing about tiggers is

I'm the only one

I-I-I'm, the only... oof!

Ouch!

On reflection, maybe I do have something. Not advice as such, more an observation. Anger is usually hiding an underlying emotion - frustration, grief, helplessness, fear. It can help to try to understand what is driving the anger.

I don't really have many healthy coping mechanisms...

I'll have an anxiety attack

Cry

Stress clean

Eat all the cake/chocolate

Take a nap

Cuddle a cat

Just sit in the garden

Put some depressing music on

Big hugs little pickle

I don't know what triggering is. I use it in the correct way in a sentence. I know what someone means when they say they are triggered or something triggers them and they feel a reaction coming on. Other than that , it doesn't happen to me.

I don't bear the burden for what others do and say. They are not my conscience.

Hope you find ways to avoid the negativity of others O.P. This way comes but once. Don't waste it in hate. Theirs or yours.

Depends Op, if it’s purely anger! I tend to get in the garage and take it out on my punchbag. If I feel d sad but need to let off steam - axe throwing works, it’s the satisfying noise when it sinks into the wood… Think!!

Or if I need to think things through a long walk with my dog Gully

Hope you’re ok Mr pickle

I obviously don’t know the specifics but I’ve recently experienced some very triggering traumatic stuff around my mum and Dad and finally decided 45 was old enough to say that’s it no more x I will only see them when I feel it’s safe emotionally for me

Ah Pickles.

I'm so sorry. I hope you spending time writing and facing your feelings takes the edge off how shitty you must feel.

*sends you a hug*

People are shite, but there's so much good in the world. I completely understand it's not easy to focus on the positives sometimes.

I usually have a good cry when I'm triggered. I feel a bit better after that.

Do you want to play GTA?
