Manchester (she/her)

As a site supporter you'll see two distances. One is the location they've set in their profile, and the other is where they actually are.

Deepest darkest Peru

"So, on people’s profile it states how far away they are. Is that accurate? For example, someone who is saying they are abroad & have recently been online shouldn’t be showing as 10-15 miles away? "

I set my postcode miles away from where I live, usually to a city or town I know I’ll be going to. Also turn my location off on occasion

Glasgow

Depends.

If it shows as mobile it is reasonably accurate, although fake gps can move you to wherever you want.

Otherwise it is whatever you type in as a postcode.

I've just put fakegps as me in Thailand. I'm in Glasgow though.

Carlisle usually

If you both have who's near on then the current distance is usually fairly accurate.

If either has it turned off it just works from the postcode entered.

If a profile has 'who's near' switched off, it won't be accurate at all.

We've had on a couple of occasions people suggesting we're apparently very close, when in reality we were nearly 300 miles away.
