My nephew is 20 who is autistic. He holds down an decent office job but has no friends or ‘outside’ life.

What advice can you give to could help with his social connections. He literally goes to work n goes home, due to his impaired social skills.

Have a look at the National Autistic Society, they will have advice, and also links on local organisations that can help

Google autism support groups in your area.

My youngest went to an archery club for a while.

I'd say everyone there was on the spectrum.

Have a child with aspergers who used to be the same went to work came home wouldn't go out socialising! She had lots of online "friends" which I thought was not healthy tbh! But she eventually decided she was going to florida to meet one of them! Got a plane on her own after not even venturing to town on her own! And is now happily married and has a few American friends! I do empathise with u though not easy x

Two of my adult children are autistic. They prefer online friends rather than face to face relationships. I have realised I mustn't project my idea of friends and a social life on to them as they are happy how they are.

Is he happy with his social life (including online)?

I'm autistic and many aspects of a "normal" social life I find either tedious or overwhelming. Occasionally at the same time!

I was told about something called SNAP the other day. It’s on Facebook, apparently is informative and helpful for older youngsters. Haven’t had a chance to look yet but may be worth a look for them x

Is your nephew bothered about his lack of social life? Has he said he's lonely?

Because if he hasn't be careful as what you feel is supportive may well feel to him like a neurotypical telling him how to better deal with his Autism.

Autism is complex, many of us (over 70%) don't hold down jobs at all, we have limited energy so the fact he's working full time may leave him not wanting to socialise. Maybe he's got online friends, online connections, these are all valid, socialising doesn't have to be in person.

If he is feeling lonely and seeking friendships, what are his interests?

Yeah, dealing with neurotypicals is quite tiring enough
