Ye , I make decent money but I’d like to be able to build a business that keeps me at home an will keep me in the life I’m used to living .
Don’t get me wrong my idea of good money could be way off mark from anyone else’s . |

A bit boring but a cash ISA you can pay in up to £20,000 each tax year if you can pay in £5000 a year for 10 years that would be £50,000 plus interest then you can either use that money for something you have always wanted to do or carry on saving.I know boring but safe |

No it’s not boring mate I totally agree with what you’re saying . That is a good long term investment/ savings .
I’m looking for a new business idea to give me the opportunity to leave the job I’m in to work for myself and potentially in a few years site back while other people do the work for me |

Hopefully not an issue for awhile, but I've heard that (with a desktop computer) mining bitcoin might be a supplement to heating, and cheaper (because of the mining) than actually heating - even if electricity prices mean mining bitcoin is no longer profitable per se |

You could have a good go at making some decent British porn. You'll need to get someone skilled to do the camera work, another for sound, make-up and writers to set a scene.
There were some good and funny porn films back in the day and a few more like that would be great. Babyface, The other Sinderella, Chopstix. |

No it’s not boring mate I totally agree with what you’re saying . That is a good long term investment/ savings .

After a few years saving in cash ISA you can look into transferring all of into into a ISA bond for 2-5 years depending on what your fancy as the interest rate are generally better.I have used my allowance every year since 1999 when ISA were launched and what I have saved together with been mortgage free means I maybe taking full or partial retirement from my job next year when I will be 55 and allowed to retire with my pension but all depends how much I am allowed as I don’t want to be dipping too much into my savings |

Specially if you time it right at supermarkets and they have a changing series, they reduce the sets by nearly 90% but they don't usually update the labels, unless they really want to get rid of them. |

I bought doge about 18 months ago, only £100 worth , I’m sure it went up to about £1200 but sadly back down but I’m still at a gain. Yes you’re right it’s only a loss when you sell |

It's all well and good saying invest in shares as if it's a sure fire way to pick a share, sit back and reap the rewards. In reality its not that easy.
Take a look at Netflix - yesterday they announced earnings. They missed with 200,000 fewer subscribers. Their share price dropped 27%. It's already down 37% for the year. This has a knock on to other platforms for no reason other than potential subscriber loss.
Facebook had a similar loss a few months ago wiping billions off their share price as people were switching to other sites - affecting future growth. Right now there are recession fears & stagnation fears due to the cost of living.
Economists are torn on whether companies/economies are at that inflection point of peak inflation and if will recede in the coming months - it is anyone's guess as interest rates are due to increase throughout this year to try and tame it.
Either way buying shares is not easy - you really have to know what you are buying and if a company is profitable, has pricing power, are a future company or have organised supply chains - even then it's not a given.
You do need a lot of money to earn money from shares. If not get a good fund or appreciate that you need to keep shares for a long time to earn possible dividends or an increased share price over years of hold them. |

Well I normally charge £5,000 for this OP, but just for today (and possibly tomorrow too) you can get it for £500!
In a nutshell it's taking money from other people's deals. It involves deals that happen a lot, but completely randomly and not in the open so you normally have to completely chance on them! Or you could buy my unethical 'potentials' lists? Of course it seems like you hardly need to 'work' at it at all! But you will, and to little effect due to the pre-existing interest. Interested??? Yup investing in stock or forex as a business idea is an awful idea, investing for your future over 10-30 is risky enough !! I did ok during lockdown but was very lucky tbh with Amazon, Bitcoin , Tesla but sleep much easier now I cashed out.
As a business you need execution , ideas are easy, capital us easy , execution is hard.
Get a decent job instead they pay far better for most people. My job pays me more in one year than my last business paid me in 5

Hey OP,
Just took a look at where you are, Dunbar seems to be a great destination for picking up tourist trade. If you can create anything along the souvenir lines, you can sell to the independent gift shops. Upcycling beach wash-up like driftwood and fishing nets gives you an eco edge to your business, or if you've got a keen eye for photography you can supply them with postcards and prints.
Being a bit of a foodie I'd be tempted with traditional Scottish fayre that can be posted out to people, shortbread, whisky etc. Smoked salmon is a very niche product that you could bring a good return, especially if it's part of a luxury hamper or sold to local deli's. According to my family who live up near Turriff the game industry is very popular, so a good paté could work well. You can outsource a lot of the production to local smokehouses and independent kitchens for a fee and then sell your product online with a slick website and good social media presence.

What skills do you have?
To make a lot of money you need to have a skill or resource that people can't get easily, if at all.
If I was to setup a business today, I would be looking at the electric car market. The bigger the market gets the more widespread the problems. Look into new markets and products, do the analysis, workout the pinch points, is it worth it? If yes, get on with it but you need to commit more time and energy than you think to make it work. Disappointment guaranteed, but stick with it and you could become your own boss.

I've been meaning to start investing in stocks and shares, but every year I spend it on holidays in Greece (I love Windsurfing. Its so addictive). For 2 to 4 months. September can be temperamental. So 3 months is safer for good wind.
I would only invest in something I am familiar with and it's needed for humanity. |

Vanilla switch yes but if you had of looked at Netflix results you would have seen they were never really a great business, intangible assets(non physical) was way over priced. No Free Cash Flow adding more shares yearly so diluting the price. Yes people used them during lock down. Could not even pay a dividend....with a rise in interest rates people will start cutting costs at home where they can...lots of businesses in that line will suffer the same fate. |

It was really to give a move levelled response than just buy [random stock]. In all honesty shares move (up/down) all the time, hopefully not by the amount Netflix did and with any luck it'll recover, though that's the point I suppose ... people buy them for 5, 10, 15yrs as HotNotts said. Anything you put in with luck will gain long term - or just get a fund and take the risk out. |
