Has anyone bought the new Kindle fire? Any advice on which is the best Kindle to buy as I am thinking of getting one. Thanks.

I have the old kindle and love it, it goes everywhere with me, well maybe not everywhere, taking it to a meet and reading whilst in the throes of passion, would be a bit rude don't you think lol

Swmbo was making noises about the Kindle Fire HD, but after doing a bit of research bought the Tablet I already have, a Scroll Excel, for a third less than the cost of a 16GB Fire HD.

Also ordered the case and keyboard I have for it.

I was considering getting the kindle Fire HD for my youngest daughter for Christmas but am now considering the Nexus 7 32gb (which they reckon will be out before Christmas). It's android and has a 7" screen which would make it a good e-reader. But I'm a bit of a techno dummy so could do with some guidance ... anyone have any advice?

Used to be exactly the same, then got the Kindle App on the iPad...No need for the light on, no struggling with big novels, no reading glasses required, just adjust the font size. And I can take a while library away with me !

I've got the original Kindle and love it, if it was ever to break I wouldn't hesitate to replace it but only with a basic £69 Kindle, I want it purely for reading, got my laptop for everything else.

A basic Kindle is basically an e-reader.

A Kindle Fire HD is an e-reader running a highly customised version of Android 4.0 operating system, but still very biased towards books, music, and films.

You can buy a 7" tablet for almost half the price of the 16GB Fire HD, and download the Kindle software onto it, plus have full access to Google Playstore, which it seems you can't do with the Fire.

So if you're 'blinded' by the Kindle name, you'll go for the Fire HD. But if you want a more useful machine you'll go for a 7" tablet.

In my humble opinion!!

One of my colleagues had a faulty screen on a kindle owned for more than a year and amazon replaced it without quibble.

The screen froze on the new one when she was syncing it to reload her library and 5mins on Google and she did a reset by pressing and holding the on switch for (I believe) 20 secs.

I absolutely adore my kindle. I have the older one with the keyboard. Paid £111 for it April 2011 and have no issues with it all. Yet!!! Hope I haven't just tempted fate by saying that. Lol

I only wanted one for reading books so the more bells and whistles a kindle has, the more there is to go wrong, like anything really I suppose. I am more than happy with mine and have def gotten my money's worth out of it, especially with some of the freebie downloads on Amazon.
