We've been given the opportunity for a rare weekend away.

Where do you recommend in the UK and why?

- What's there or nearby ?

- What makes that place special/unique?

Anywhere in the UK please. Distance isn't an issue.

Thanks!

Where would you like me?

Cambridge is fantastic for a little break buuut it kind of depends on what you're interested in - it has amazing cinnamon buns (Fitzbillies is incredible), little independent bookstores, great indie restaurants/cafes, some fascinating museums and lovely walks. Ely is nearby and they have one of the best bookstores in the country as well as beautiful walks. It can be a bit pricey though. Obviously this is from the bias of a nerdy dork though.

Bath and York are both lovely, similar vein to Cambs. York is a bit cheaper. Harrogate is lovely but a bit less going on.

I guess it depends on what kind of thing you're after, a more nerdy break, a seaside town? Or somewhere in the middle of nowhere.

You've also got Derbyshire - Bakewell, Matlock and Buxton. If you're looking for more of a roaring fire, long country walks and quaint towns they might be more up your street.

Edinburgh is truly stunning and appears on this kind of thread often.

North Bucks

I went to North Norfolk this year in May. Rented a small cottage for me and my dogs in a village. Plenty of things for to do in semi lockdown at the time and a great beach to get nude on if that’s what you like.

Only an hour and a bit or so past Peterborough so not far at all.

Planning on doing it again this year

Dubai / Nottingham

York is nice and you can nip across the moors to Robin hoods bay. Bristol is good too, make a Banksy map and visit some great bars and cafes in the process

I'd head for Northumberland ... Bamburgh Castle and the holy islands (Lindesfarme)... Stunning coastline.. I think you can stay on the island too, so makes it more exciting

York and Norfolk doing well so far. Like the idea of the Banksy map too.

Somewhere with a decent Spa/massage would be good too. Nice bars and restaurants and some nice sights or walks to take in are our main things to do.

Durham

The Durham dales are beautiful, as is the Lake District.

If you're wanting livelier then Newcastle is a vibrant city and York is lovely.

Enjoy your time away.

West Wales is beautiful - forget though Pembrokeshire, try south-mid Ceredigion coastline. Beautiful beaches, lovely little towns and villages, great walks. Bit of a hidden gem.x

As a Welshman the Western coast is one of my favourite places. Some beautiful beaches and walks that way... I think this time will be somewhere different though x

Lakes is definitely on our to do list. Hubby has never been. Same for Peak District and Edinburgh. Just finding the time to slot them in and choosing which to do first.

From where you are, Henley’s not bad. Nice river walk, some good pubs and restaurants and there is a vineyard close that does yours which are interesting.
