Out of simple curiosity, I recently visited the 'lawn cemetery' in Sutton Dublin to have a look at the gravestones of some of the famous Irish people buried there.
A lawn cemetery, a concept I had never even heard of before my visit, is where the gravestones are not erected as in traditional graveyards, but laid flat on the ground, and with no adornments permitted.
Glasnevin will be my next port of call, which is a traditional graveyard.
The simplest gravestone that I saw in Sutton was that of the famous Irish broadcaster Gabriel Mary Byrne: it simple read-
Gay Byrne
broadcaster
1934-2019
Definitely, in this specific instance, a good example of "less is more."
A nearby gravestone of the former Superquinn owner, Fearghal Quinn, was chock full of both personal and family details.
I was not able to find the gravestone of the famous Thin Lizzy guitarist and vocalist, Phil Linnott, which I presume will have items that have been left by some of his legion of fans.

Next time you go ask any of the gravediggers working there ....they'll point it out to you as its the only question they normally get asked by people visiting
Its fascinating reading the stuff left on the grave by fans
