What was the first car you ever had?

By (user no longer on site) OP     over a year ago

Had this conversation the other day and had a giggle about my first car

A bright blue Fiat Cinquecento

Or my Cheekycento as I liked to call it

I almost wrote off that car so many times I'd say it was glad to see the back of me.

So what was your first little run around? And did you have a pet name for it?

A 1982, 1 litre Ford Fiesta. Never had a pet name for any car though.

In the 30 years since I've had 4 company cars so only actually owned about 8 others but can still remember how it felt to drive that wee car.

A volkswagon golf... I think I bought it 5th hand.. The ashtrays were full of bolts and screws, the drivers door would swing open going around a corner, 3rd gear appeared when it felt like it. It had wipers belong to a coach so were too long for the windscreen. It back fired a lot so scared the divine shit out of every pet in the parish and when I went to repair something in the boot I found a gun in the spare wheel... Took it to the guards who said it was a starting pistol.

Bought it for £2400 in 1985 so it was 3 years old and my first ever third party fire and theft insurance was £214. Found the receipt and policy a couple of months ago.

I was a late starter in driving... I was 25 & got a white polo. I loved it! Until I locked my 22 month old daughter in it with the keys... you know the days when you pushed the button down to lock a door... 2 hours spent trying to get into the damn thing! Traded in a few months later with remote central locking- no buttons!!

Had an Xr3i in Germany in 94, absolutely loved that little rocket of a car.

It came with no papers but that didnt matter as i had no licence or insurance etc.

It was a UK reg and was unlimited, they had started limiting the speed on them in the UK because of the boy racers

We used to zip up and down the autobahns at 130mph+++

Your phone will locate your car if you were driving it last

You can also buy a Bluetooth tag that you leave hidden in the car

( its very small )

If someone steals your car you can see it on google maps

I thought it was the best thing on the road at the time had spotlights on her and all despite the fact that if you went over 50 she rattled and shook something rotten, the boot was tied closed with bailer twine and you aren't park her on a hill cos god knows where she would end up.But we travelled all over in her and she was so reliable to start and go and cost virtually nothing to run.

Peugeot 206...... I ruined it by putting 18" alloys on it and tinting the windows. Must have been going through a boy racer phase

A Mk1 Golf that looked like a Gti. I was 17 and wanted a motorbike but my mum didn’t want me to get one and said if I bought the car she would pay for the first years insurance. Think she paid more than me
