I have had pics downloaded off the site and posted through the door by a member on this site, don't know who.

Is there any way you can secure the site from downloading pics of profiles

the simple answer is No you cant, there are so many ways to copy a pic off the net, so no matter wat the site owner does your pics will never be safe. we dont put face pics in the public gallery for that reason...

to add to lemonandlime

this is taken from the FAQ's...

Why don't you right-click protect our photos to stop others stealing / saving them?

We believe in being straighforward with the members of Fab. Right click protect doesn't work and gives a false sense of security by pretending to "protect" images. Other sites may pretend they've protected your images but actually they're being dishonest by claiming that.

Right click "protect" can be gotten around in under 2 seconds by any of the following methods:

Simplest: Goto File menu, Save As, and save to desktop = The photos will be in a folder on your desktop that your browser has created.

OR... Disable JavaScript by going to Tools menu, choose Internet Options, Click the Security tab, click Custom Level, scroll to the "Scripting" section of the list and click Disable. Right click can now be used to save images.

OR... Press print screen and the image + page will be copied to clipboard where it can be pasted into a graphics program for resize or save.

We give you three privacy options on your photos and we now hide images from anyone who isn't a member of Fab. If you are worried about someone stealing your photos you may want to set them to be viewable only by your friends, or private in which case you can send by private mail.

We also now watermark all photos upon upload.

Obviously, no matter how a pic is watermarked, it won't stop it been copied and posted through a door.

One thing I have said to folk is to only use pics on your profile that someone could of seen on Facebook. Ie public gallery, just body shots, maybe no faces nor identifiable marks. Private gallery maybe full body shots, tattoos etc on show, faces on show.

This way, if you were 'outed' to your family, the simple explanation is that someone took pics from Facebook and made the swinging profile themselves

Personally, we don't do this, but would like to think that we can trust those on our pals list and are selective on who gets to see private pics.

There is, but as miss blonde says above, it's a false sense of security, screen dumping any image in the screen is impossible to stop as it's a basic and embedded function of the windows operating system.

We just have to remember that anything that we publish on the net is liable to be copied, used or abused, so err on the side of caution if in doubt

See above for why we don't "right click protect"

If you can see it then it can be copied, it's as simple as that sadly.

There is NO WAY to stop people from downloading your pics from this or ANY OTHER site.

Every time you look at a picture/image online it is automatically downloaded to your computer, along with all the words for that page and the HTML code (HTML code put the writing and pics all in their correct places in your browser)

The images are stored in a temp file on your computer, which can be saved by anyone who has viewed them.

That's why you have to be careful about saving internet history and temp files after you close your browser( which is default for most browsers) because any one with access to you computer can see the pics/images that you have looked at

Unless you use one of the browsers that has an incognito setting

Even an incognito browser needs to cache the content onto the client machine. If you know where the cache is (usually you can google the info) then you can copy the file. I've been an IT manager and Network Administrator for 20 years, trust me, as someone said earlier, if you can see it, then you can copy it.....and that is ANYWHERE on the web.

all that does is delete your history the pics etc from your computer, i.e stops others seeing what you've been up to

But it doesn't stop others copying your pics of THIS or ANY OTHER website, because people who want to copy images just don't use incognito.

The comments about clearing history and using incognito window were aimed at those using a shared pc not at those wanting to protect from people taking the pics off by right clicking etc

There is a way, but it can be worked around. It requires more work for it to be downloaded though.
